Aspen, New York Times May 2017
ASPEN, COLO., JUNE 29-AUG. 20 A few themes run through this sprawling festival, which has more than 400 events. “Enchantment” explores the magical and mythical in music by composers like Ravel, Debussy, Stravinsky, Alexander Zemlinsky and Christopher Theofanidis. A concentration on concertos includes new contributions to the genre by Anna Clyne, Jonathan Leshnoff, Alan Fletcher and Matthew Ricketts. There’s more contemporary music in the shape of the American premiere of Luke Bedford’s opera “Seven Angels”; a performance of Berlioz’s monumental “The Damnation of Faust” under the music director, Robert Spano; and performances from a large roster of artists that includes Jonathan Biss, Renée Fleming and Alisa Weilerstein.
