Costa Rica enjoys a prime warm-water location for teaching Level 1 to Level 4 surfers from novice (never-ever) and beginners to intermediate and advanced surfers. Playa Hermosa, one of the most renowned breaks in Costa Rica for intermediate/advanced surfers is only 10 minutes away. Other beaches on the Central Pacific coast where coaches take guests include Playa Esterillos, a seven-mile-long beach with the second longest left-surfing-break in Costa Rica, and Playa Herradura.
Dining
A Surf Synergy stay includes three healthy meals daily prepared by Surf Synergy’s chef incorporating local produce and seafood. Complimentary beverages include fresh coconuts-on-demand, artesian spring water from a nearby spring, fresh juices made from local fruit including tamarind, passionfruit, and blackberry, smoothies, elixirs, local Costa Rican dry-roasted coffee, and a selection of teas.
Background
Surf Synergy evolved from a family vacation that turned into a permanent lifestyle. At age 51, U.S. entrepreneur Rich Naha thought that surfing was not something to learn later in life. While retreating from the pandemic in 2021, he met Marcel Oliveira and Surf Synergy was born. Rich and his family trained every day with Marcel in surfing, yoga, breathwork, and recovery techniques, and they created Surf Synergy to allow others to experience the benefits and joy of surfing and a healthy lifestyle.
Co-founder/Head Coach Marcel Oliveira recently became the national SUP champion of Costa Rica (at age 42) – for the fourth year in a row. Passionate about coaching surf and SUP, he oversees an expert team who provide one-on-one coaching incorporating breathwork and recovery with ice baths, massage, and nutrition to make it possible for nearly anyone to learn to surf regardless of age or previous experience.
